Hitachi Starboards / Phantom Mouse Mover

Just wanting to see whether anyone else is using Hitachi Electronic Whiteboard they call them Starboards.

 

We are and have a few with an issue whereby the mouse point appears to become possessed. It exhibits out of the ordinary behaviour, sticking in one corner, continuous mouse clicks and the like. This behaviour disappears when the electronic whiteboard is unplugged.

 

We have Hitachi on the case who have offered to visit us in order to see for themselves. But sods law states the intermittent problem will not happen whilst they are onsite.

 

So wondering if you have seen this behaviour yourself and if anyone has a fix.

I've seen this on the newer boards (the ones that don't need pens) when there has been dirt on the sensor that runs round the board. I've also seen one where the voltage from the USB port on the PC was fluctuating, fixed that one by using a powered USB hub. Finally what version of the starboard software are you using? 9.71 fixes a lot of bugs....

We've had that with the older duo boards (ones with the silver strip down the sides). Our problems are caused by the sunlight hitting the sensor and it thinking someone's touching the board. Dust also causes problems as @AJWhite1970 mentioned. Funnily enough Christmas decorations stuck to the board also cause issues!

 

I'd also ensure you've got the right driver installed. You could try swapping the USB lead. I've also seen certain boards not liking USB3/Super speed ports. As soon as they are plugged into a USB 2 port they are fine.
