Networking Advice

Hi guys!

I am trying to develop some networking skills and wanted some advice on the perfect platform to begin. Please can someone recommend where I can start at the most basic level? Maybe up to date and interesting videos/books would be a great start, if so, any recommendation?

As a good starting point are you more into HP/Cisco/other vendors switching? (perhaps influenced by whatever kit you are running at the moment)

 

Or are we looking at a lower level and more at the fundamental principals of how networking works?

N+ definetely a good starting point, gives a good grouding without being too vendor specific. I am getting my tech to do once he has finished the A+

@apur32 - thanks for your response. My current skills are extremely basic. My aim and aspirations are to understand the networking within the 'Cloud' based environment.

As @CAWJames said A+ may a good start to get understanding of networking.

I did N+ and A+ on my year as an apprentice, I have now started studying CCNA of which my N+ knowledge is helping out a lot.

If wanting to learn about cloud networking when you don't have the basics down I stop and cover them first.

A+,N+ and then CCNA. Try and source some cheap layer 3 managed switches as well, then you can lab up some scenarios.
