[sims] SIMS group question

Hi all.

 

I'm trying to produce an individual pupil progress report in SIMS that, among their names and reg/year group, displays their maths and english groups. The maths and english groups are user-defined groups.

 

When editing the template, we use <> for their forename, <> for their year group etc. These are inserted through the Add-ins tab in Word. Is there any way to do this for english and maths groups?

 

I don't think this is possible because all the other values are defined within SIMS but there is no way for SIMS to know what user-defined group a certain pupil is part of. It knows that they are in a group called 'Maths L' but not that they are in maths set 'L'. Does that make sense? I can't use a tag such as <> because that isn't defined in SIMS.

Are you using the Report Designer to do this or individual reports in Assessment Manager. In Assessment Manager its fairly easy to do this. In the standard Report Designer its more complex but you can certainly filter on class names and have it put them in the report. However, if your "classes" are user defined fields then you might be able to do it as user defined fields are exposed to the reporting dictionary under the Student>UDF focus.

 

It does beg the question of why your groups are UDF as opposed to just using the standard curriculum groups. Is your timetable not in SIMS ?

No, unfortunately not. And it won't be for the foreseeable future.

Ah I see. That limits your options somewhat !

You can create aspects to hold the Maths group and another for the English group then populate the aspects with the appropriate information and include these on your report (also you could then use these in Discover to generate Dynamic groups so you wouldn't have to keep the info up to date in more than 1 place)
