Mine craft in school

Hi All,

 

I've recently been asked to have a look at minecraft in our school, I'm the IT Technician in the school who looks after the entire network etc. Minecraft was setup by the old network manager who was there when the school first opened.

 

All I know so far is:

 

The students login to an account called 'minecraft', this is a restricted account.

 

In AD, when I'm looking in the properties of the account it shows a profile \\server\profiles\minecraft

 

As far as I'm aware the program isn't stored on the machines, it's stored somewhere and it takes an awful long time for the account to log on.

 

Are there any guides to setting up minecraft again from scratch so I know how it works. I don't play minecraft myself but students are telling me that the shortcut was on the desktop last week, and now, today, it's not. They all login to one account. I also know that there's a roaming profile setup, but when the account logs on, it says it's logged in as a temporary profile.

 

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME???

Microsoft has an eductional edition: https://education.minecraft.net/

They are bound to have good guides about how to setup minecraft in schools

I don't know if it's the same for the edu version of minecraft, but the regular version (historically and by default) installs most of itself to %appdata/.minecraft

 

So the program would be installed to the "minecraft" user account rather than any particular machine. This would also explain why it takes so long for the account to log in. Unless, you've got redirected appdata, the whole minecraft install will be being pulled down with the roaming profile.
