Website page on bootup

I know how to add a website page as the active desktop screen is there a way of also adding it to boot up so as windows loads this page comes up instead?

You mean so Windows operates in "kiosk" mode, just showing you a webpage? You could simply add the shortcut to the webpage to the startup folder, that would load the web page when the machine booted. For something a little more robust (i.e. something that stops the user closing the IE window and doing something else) you'll probably want a little application that uses the Internet Explorer OLE plugin to make a full-screen browser window with no "close", etc, buttons. I don't know offhand of anything that does this, but a Google search for "windows kiosk mode" and variants might help. You could also make your own if you have a copy of Visual Basic or whatever handy.

 

If you just want to display a specific web page, searching for Linux/Firefox based kiosk-mode boot CDs might yield better results.

wow! never knew you could get IE todo that! learning new things every day!!

 

there is software you can buy (or might be free versions) that actully locks out C+A+D and the alt+F4 keystroke if you want to secure the page fully!

Or just disable all the buttons on the ctrl-alt-del menu via the registry, there's a registry key somewhere which prevents you from closing IE, and then disable task manager as well - and then none of the keyboard shortcuts will work.

I know that's how Halifax secure the internet banking terminals they have in some of the branches.

They also set the shell to be IE running in kiosk mode, so there's no explorer to allow you to get round the system.
