AshMash Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 So since I put in a new server so that we could have an actual work network for the macs Ive had so many bugs to work through - random users getting 'library needs to repair to run applications', keychain login constantly popping up, etc... I've gotten to the stage that these bugs are no longer a problem, however log in times can be very long - anywhere from 3 minutes to half an hour... That's IF users manage to log on, sometimes they just aren't able to. According to the endless amount of forums on this topic, this could be due to a number of problems: DNS, TCP/IP Stack, struggle to talk to SMB... Can anyone shed any light into this? Please only respond with actual advice/solutions
Brimstone Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I presume you have gigabit to the desktop...?
HPlum78 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 where are these SMB shares? On a storage box or hosted by a Windows server?
PR-UK Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Are you storing the user profile on a Windows share? We used to do this but it was incredibly slow and causes no end of problems, when we switched to Windows 2012 R2 and enabled de-duplication the Macs just couldn't cope so we switched them back to local profiles and not had any major issues since.
HPlum78 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I will take a punt on a windows share. SMB signing would be the thing I looked at first, the macs have it on and you don't have it enabled on the domain or you have it on the domain and your mac don't either way round your going to hit problems.
HPlum78 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Oh and @PR-UK I bet that was the issue you had as well. Just before you go switching SMB signing on/ off just think about any other interactions this will have in your environments! Just dug this up https://dpron.com/os-x-10-11-5-slow-smb/ will maybe help. Edited October 4, 2016 by HPlum78
