jbutlin Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hi folks, apologies if there is already a thread for this somewhere. At the infant school I support, they are having some odd issues with Office 365 email. Teacher A sends an email to Teacher B, with an attachment - Teacher B sometimes never receives the email, but occasionally they do suddenly drop into her inbox days later. Teacher B can send all emails to Teacher A and they all get through. All teachers are part of the same organisation. Teacher A is now using a totally different laptop, different version of Outlook etc, but the problems persist. Anyone had issues like this before?
Steve21 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Normally anything like that seems to be issues if it gets caught by spam filters etc. We put a full allow on all local emails and .sch.uk addresses for that. Also did you doa mail trace on it? Will show where it went and why/what happens etc Steve 1
jbutlin Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 I am just trying to find the Office 365 mail flow tester which I've seen before! There is no exchange server - with the infant school it is all hosted in Office 365.
Steve21 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Go into the exchange admin page (near bottom left), and then onto it Steve 1
jbutlin Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Thank you!! Looks as though some of these messages are being deleted as Office 365 thinks they contain malware. Instead, they contain SMART notebook files!
Steve21 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Make a traffic rule that puts all emails from your organization to your organist ion in a whitelist bypassing all other checks that's what we do Steve
jbutlin Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Thanks again Steve - what's the most efficient way to do that? I've set something up in spam filters, but I'm still concerned that files with a .notebook attachment will get blocked randomly
Steve21 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Actually saying that not sure you can white list malware ones, spam you deffo can :s If you go into protection and edit your default malware policy, there's options in there to auto-email parties when something is blocked. Put on notify internal users, and you can even set your email to get a flag when it happens Steve
jbutlin Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Brill, thanks a lot Steve. I've added a few spam rules and so on, so we'll see what happens next!
Steve21 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Works pretty well, you get emails like this: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. Your email message was not delivered to the intended recipients because malware was detected. --- Additional Information ---: Subject: Message from "CUKPR0303" Sender: [email protected] Time received: 9/28/2016 12:17:28 PM Message ID:<[email protected] Detections found: 20160928051723547131252.zip JS/Nemucod.TSN
jbutlin Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 Well, i spoke to Microsoft for over 2 hours and they came back with `the attachments must contain malware' and left it at that. I've since spoken to SMART, who have thoroughly scanned the files and not found any malware, neither have any of the scanners I've used. Not really sure where to go from here, I'm wondering if I need to speak to someone specific at Microsoft...
