VMware Password Problem

I am quite new to VMware and have had an unexpected issue.

 

Our VMWare ESXi 6.0.0 server had been set up with a dynamic IP.

I logged in to the server physically and set this to a static one and rebooted the machine.

It came up with the static address, which is responding to ping and showing on a web browser, but it now says my password is wrong. I did not change the password and can't quite figure out what has happened.

It makes no difference if I try and log in physically to the server or us the vSphere Windows software.

I only had the root account set up and don't really know how I can proceed if it won't accept this password.

 

Any ideas?

You can do a re-install. Before the install runs it gives you the option for a clean install or an upgrade.

 

The upgrade option should reset the root password. Install on ours recently took about 10 mins.

 

Otherwise try and ssh into it with putty and reset your root password there - if it will let you in - might be the keyboard layout bugging out.

Thank you. Strange, it seems the password was blank? It must have reset it somehow. Either way, I am back on it now and able to re-configure.
