timbo343 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 So we have a problem with the HP8200 machines which have SSDs in them running windows 10 LTSB 2015 with staff profiles. When a member of staff logs into a machine with the above hardware they dont get the redirected start menu or settings & file explorer on the start menu. It only works correctly if the user doesnt have a profile which it recreates on the server. Once the profile has been created and the user logs off and logs back on the start menu is empty. After lots of testing it turns out that the problem is with the SSDs that are in the machine. If we put a spinning hdd in the machine, it works fine everytime. Has anyone else had this problem? We are thinking maybe a bios update will solve this issue.
ITGuyWestMidlands Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Seems odd. If you give them a few minutes before logging on is there any difference?
timbo343 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Nope no difference, it was the same yesterday, all day. The user logs on once a day and logs off at 6pm. We even tried re-creating the user thinking it was the user. This had the same affect, after imaging the machine multiple times and testing on a machine with a spinning hard drive it ruled out the ssd. We got a user to login which had been working without any problems and sure enough, it failed.
timbo343 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 We know about the black screen after logon which we cover come by holding the power button and logging back in. We had one machine where the start menu only, not the taskbar, had totally failed so we had to reimage the machine. Some staff do have a problem with the start menu but theyve learn to log off and back on which fixes the issue. Bring back Win7, thats what i say.
