500 internal server error

I'm trying to install the edugeek joomla package (edugeek_joomla_1.1.1.zip). However I can't get past step 1 of the installation. After inputing the details of the mysql database and clicking next I get a 500 internal server error.

 

I have installed joomla 1.5 from joomla.org on different domains on the same server a number of times with no problems.

 

Any ideas why the edugeek package is causing this error? It's driving me crazy.

Before we look at the bigger picture, can you install joomla into the directory you're trying to use for edugeek joomla?

 

I'd suspect that your current one isn't chmodded to execute, or moreover it may be breaking a rule by being 'too' executable. - Worth reading your logs especially if you use suexec.

I can install joomla 1.5 in the directory. I will try the version of joomla used in the edugeek package and see what happens

Ok. well I've tried installing both joomla 1.5 and 1.0.13 in the same location.

 

Only 1.5 works. 1.0.13 gives the 500 internal server error along with:

 

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request

 

I have no clue as to why this is happening. Are there big differences between installing different versions? Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like a basic setup error with your webhosting / web server. Is php installed and enabled correctly? Including the .php extention being a recognized type.....

 

Try a basic .php file in the same location your are trying to install with the source of

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

having spoken with the technical support at my webhost, they said it is due to the installation being a resource hog.

 

Why does 1.0.13 use more resources than 1.5 when installing? Anyway round this or should I change my host?

 

Can you recommend any good webhosts for the edugeek package?
