Hi,

 

Could anyone point me in the right direction for working out KS2 Fine Point Scores from KS2 test marks?

I've used the conversion tables that were on this site previously: HGfL: Teaching & Learning: Assessment: Attainment Data - but they've all been removed.

 

Managed to locate conversion templates for 2011-2015, but cannot find a 2016 conversion template in SIMS.

 

Does anyone know how to convert our new Year 7's scores into a KS2 FPS?

As far as I'm aware, there are no fine levels for this cohort, they are superseded by the new scaled scores. I could be wrong, of course

I believe that's correct - there are no levels reported for this years KS2 tests, just the raw scores, so there will not be an official conversion.

How will progress 8 scores be worked out without a fine point score?

Well, it will probably have been scrapped in favour of some other metric by 2021. Failing that, I assume the cohort will be banded based on the scaled scores, hopefully by some sort of cluster analysis.

 

Regardless, I would always plan to re-validate KS2 data at the start of Y11, and by that point you'd hopefully know what the intended analysis was for RAISE

I *believe* there is going to be further guidance released by DFE on this in September, which will clarify how banding might work with the new scores. Been advised not to 'make up' our own in the meantime, so for the moment the KS2 data for 2016 is all but useless.

One really important point is that these scaled scores are not standardised. 100 represents the 'expectation' value for the test, not the mean outcome for the cohort. The mean outcomes were 103 in reading and maths and 104 in GPS. We have not been given anything statistically useful such as variance or skewness.

 

If anything, I feel this makes them worse than useless, since people will be inclined to treat them as standarised scores (especially teachers that remember the age-standardised scores, or schools that use CATS) and assume the standard 85-115 range.

I had the same problem, have always used HGFL for the conversion spreadsheets, but now they have been taken down! I have 2012 & 2013 copies. would you be able to send me copies of the 2014 & 2015 versions?
