Ghosting a DC

Hi

 

My Primary DC on my home setup, the hard drive with the operating system is on its way out. Its nothing special no raid just an IDE hard drive. So I would like to put a new drive into it. Will I be safe to ghost the server, install the new drive and restore the image onto the new drive?

I don't see any reason as to why you wouldn't be safe doing this seeing as, and I think I'm right in saying this, it's a bit for bit copy.

It's fine for this given that you've probably only got 1 DC.

 

What you must not ever do is use this as a way of backing up a DC and keeping it "just in case" - when you restore it in your domain, the data on the other DCs will have changed and the world collapses in a messy heap :-)

Try using Acronis, its much better than ghost these days.

@Ittech: I agree most heartedly Acronis is ahead of all the other imaging software, use the server edition.

cant afford Acronis - What does it do that ghost does not?

Yep I do, that’s how I have learnt my stuff. (With the aid of books and videos)

Do you have a legal copy of Ghost?

if so use that then, if not then acquire Acronis the same way you acquired Ghost and use that then you will know the difference for sure.

I don’t have it at home, I will take the server into work and do it there. So what can Acronis dothat ghost can’t please?
