SIMS Migration Advice Needed

Hi!

 

We've just taken on another Primary Academy and it has SIMS installed on Server 2003 with SQL 2008 which we/I need to upgrade/migrate to a new server - the person who normally does this is away from work at the moment so I'm on a sharp learning curve to get this done!

 

Capita have kindly sent me some guides on how to migrate to SQL 2012 but (unless I'm not looking in the right place) it doesnt actually say how SIMS/SOLUS gets on the server?

 

I assume there are loads of you who have done this before so I was wondering if someone could bullet-point the steps I need to do to upgrade/migrate the 2003 SQL 2008 SIMS server I have at this site to a 2008R2 server with SQL 2012 on it?

You'd reinstall them and just point them at the SQL etc.

In terms of the SIMs side -

Not sure why Capita didnt tell me all that then! I told them what I needed to do and asked for the guides to do it and all they sent me was how to migrate SQL 2008 to 2012 or 2014. I've requested an account so I can log on to the support area to get the KB articles you mention but it says my organisation needs to approve it and as there are only 6 of us onsite until September (none of which are the SIMS administrator) then it's unlikely I'll get the account approved in time!

You will also need the installable version of SIMS as well.
