Securly, anyone use it? opinons?

Were looking to move over to this today, just wondering if anyone had any experiences to share.

I'd be interested to hear anyones opinions on this also, specifically if it will allow https inspection.

As far as I could understand from their docs they ask you to install *their* certificate as Root CA. I guess having your own is a better idea. See https://support.securly.com/hc/en-us/articles/206082128-Securly-SSL-certificate-manual-install-in-Internet-Explorer. I may be mistaken though.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Securly requires client-side software on the user's device, and the UK Safer Internet Centre is of the opinion that client-side software isn't robust enough as a school's primary filter.

 

I'll agree with diladele as well that installing a third party's root CA certificate is a really bad idea for security (many filters provide each school with a unique certificate instead of having a single one for everyone).

 

(Note: I'm not particularly familiar with Securly)
