Yeo Valley is recalling a number of its chilled yoghurt products as they possibly contain pieces of rubber. This means the products are a possible risk to health.The affected products have been supplied to the following UK retailers:

 

• ASDA
  
• Co-operative
  
• Sainsbury
  
• Tesco
  
• Waitrose...
  

 

The web page goes on to list brands and products affected by this recall.

I think in situations where food is suspected to be contaminated, it should be mandatory for the company to disclose how/why they believe the food became contaminated. Partially for a sort-of-name-and-shame on their QC and brand damage, I guess.

 

But then I wonder, would companies/factories/production lines/whatever be more inclined to try cover it up if they were forced to disclose details? Obviously that's not what we want.

Cover-ups, for want of a better term, may occur more frequently than you would like to think. My first job was in food quality control. I can't go into detail here, although I have posted on the forums about some of the things I was unwilling witness to, but it is an understatement to say that the events were unacceptable in a food factory.

 

Hopefully, things have improved since then: I last worked at that factory in March 1987.
