Has anyone seen or heard about the institute of code, you basically go to either Mexico or Bali and learn to professionally code....

With flights, it's going to be around £3,500 for a 10-day course. I think the idea of this kind of course is that you get an intensive teaching period along with meeting a bunch of other people in a similar situation to youself. However, I figure your money might be better spent on buying a nice new laptop, deciding on a project you want to complete, starting a free online course (or just get the hang of using Google to lookup stuff as you get stuck) and hanging out in a co-working place around silicon roundabout for a couple of weeks.

I have found over the last couple of years I just don't have the enthusiasm to learn anything new at home, I think something like this where I'm away from everything would help me learn new things.

 

Has anyone else done or thought about doing anything like this?

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. All the promotional photos/videos are of how nice the surrounding are and partying, very little on course content. There's no mention of who's doing the teaching or their credentials/things they've done.

 

It seems aimed at giving marketing wonks some clue about web development. There are better ways to spend $3K.

^ That pretty much, even flicking through reviews online "oh I really enjoyed it got to paddle surf etc"

 

You could easily just get a UK based learning course/hotel for the week to be "away from work etc", and pay for a separate holiday for that price too
