Real Time Screen Capture

Can anyone recommend a good (and free) screen recorder which is actually capable of keeping up with a rapidly changing screen? I'm trying to get a video of one of the Windows Media Player visualisations but all the recorders which I've tried so far all record very slowly, so the visualisation isn't in time with the audio.

 

I'm open to any other suggestions for how this could be achieved other than screen recording software too.

Wink is your friend. Not quite as intensive and feature rich as the stuff from Camtasia but still very serviceable.

Try FRAPs. The visualisations are done in DirectX, so normal capture software will not cope with it very well. FRAPs is designed for doing movies of game screen captures, so it'll be fine for this.

FRAPS sounds promising - I can't get it to record though, I press the hotkey and nothing happens...

grumbledook, that software looks amazing, i've created a swf that uploads to moodle flawlessly, and one with a wait button and dialogue on a frame!. I've also created a pdf with screenshots. many thanks!

Wink 2 also allows for narration as well.

 

Damned handy when you don't want to stand up in front of teachers to train them ... they just follow the instructions.

 

We use it for SIMS training and it has helped no end.

I know I'm a little late to the party but there is another free screen capture program from Microsoft. Windows Media Encoder can do most of the screen capture stuff that I have seen other applications do as well as transcoding stuff into windows media formats including the streaming stuff.

 

Just another alternative that is avalible.
