I've been running with BackupAssist for almost a year; it ran successfully on a server that housed all user data which would get backed up to external USB drives.

or so months ago I created a dedicated backup server to begin backing up data of users home drives, shared drives etc that gets stored locally and then copied to a NAS. However, it's been hit and miss.

The report will always show that some files are in use and therefore the backup will fail - "File opening error "\\servername\share\filename".... because it is being used by another process."

Backups are scheduled for 9pm and there's nothing to suggest anything is in use. I have had the server rebooted at 8.50pm and the problem is still the same.

In the job creation I have 'Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service' enabled and have selected the Copy mode.

I suppose my question really is: How have you configured your backup job in BackupAssist? Also, can I see a print screen of your schedule? I think I am probably doing it wrong.

*Bump*

What version of BackupAssist are you running?

I have always had issues with VSS, regardless of backup software and OS. So, our BackupAssist job has a script set to restart the VSS service before each backup.

We use File Archiving as our backup job here.

We have VSS backup mode set to full.

I'm running version 9.3.1 (9.3.1019).

We have the same version and just have the one backup job, a full daily System Protection backup, to external USB drives.

Our VSS Backup Mode is set to Full.
