Virtual Box Problem

I am trying to set up Virtual Box on my reference image which is a VM on hyper so that I can run Linux for the computer science students. No matter what I do I can not get any linux distro to install.

 

The reference machine is a windows 10 VM running on Hyper-V, I have installed Virtual Box on this reference image. When I run Virtual Box and create a new VM it shows the 4 CPUs that the VM has but all options are grayed out and it is set to use 1 CPU.

 

Virtual Box only allows me to select 32bit versions of Linux as the OS and when installing from any Linux ISO it just hangs.

 

Has anyone managed to successfully install virtual box and a windows 10 VM and then install a Linux virtual machines with a host VM?

This is likely because of nested virtualization (i.e. a VM inside a VM)

 

I've done this the other way around, running Hyper-V within a VMware VM.

so you have a virtual windows 10 pc onto which youre trying to install a virtualbox virtual machine?

 

i suspect this is not going to work right i know you can do nested vms with hyperv on windows 10 (if its a new enough version) but i suspect there specific code for that trying to run virtualbox on a hyperv pc probably isnt going to work. Wouldnt it be easier to enable hyperv in the windows 10 client anyway as if nothing else you can powershell the setting up of a vm

Thanks all, scrapped the idea of putting it on the clone and decided to look at auto installing it after cloning.
