Command line video conversion?

Howdy.

 

I'm getting annoyed that this has so far eluded me, given it shouldn't be such a hard task to achieve.

 

All our performance lessons, exams, rehearsals etc are recorded on iPad in super high quality. They have a large uncontended share on the nasbox which the teachers can freely save into, but they are all well trained and do, generally, convert down to high or medium quality with FormatFactory depending on it's use.

 

I'm trying to save them and their technician the manual labour time of doing it, by having two folders "Videos In/High Quality" and "Videos In/Medium Quality" that then get batch converted into a /Done subfolder for them to move where they want the following day.

 

Format Factory's undocumented CLI commands would be fine, but since they renamed the UI in FormatFactory from "All to WMV" to "-> WMV" it breaks the command line because ">" is prohibited in folder names.

 

Does anyone else batch-convert videos using a scheduled batch script rather than manually via the UI?

 

If so, what do you use and could you share your script?

Ffmpeg is command line based if I remember as thats what a lot of media servers use behind the scenes.

Correct - I should have said that as its what FormatFactory uses behind the scenes.

 

But it takes a million and one parameters such as what colour you'd like the sky to be this Sunday, and what temperature should the meat be cooked at tomorrow.

 

I prefer something more on the lines of default profiles. WMV, high quality, go.
