Fortigate users come see!

I have been quoted for a couple of fortigate units along with fortigate for 5 years and the cost is HUGE!

 

What did your setup cost? and for what kit?

It was all part of our package when we had it. It's certainly capable enough for routing, firewall etc but it isn't worth anything for it's content filtering capabilities.

I'm interested in your thoughts on the content filtering side? We are currently using a pair of Palo Alto units and they are great at pretty much everything and they are due for replacement later in the year and i have been trailing fortinet because the Palo Alto costs are massively more than fortinet. What are the problems you have with content filtering?

From the impression I got the content filtering was good! I'd hate to think how much the Palo Altos are if I am finding the Fortigates are expensive.

We've come across a number of instances recently where both solutions have been over-specced for their purpose.

£5000ish should get you an Fortinet 200D which is quite a powerful unit , then around £1000 a year for the filtering add on with 8x5 hardware support.

We just found it was lacking in general. We no longer use it and were extremely glad to replace it with Lightspeed, again via our ISP. It was clunky, un-intuitive and nowhere near modular enough.

I love my Fortigate. Being using it for filtering in the school for 6 years and its been great. I find the interface fine and logical. It has so many features and has been able to handle everything we want.
