ngibson Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I have windows 7 clients with a gpo 'always wait for the network at computer startup....' so get the please wait screen when booting up before the logon screen appears. This usually works fine but I have noticed that sometimes a PC will be stuck on the 'please wait' screen for along time. I have been trying to work out why and finally realized that it is after the PC is dramatically shut down (cable pulled out etc) instead of doing a proper windows shutdown. Does anybody know what causes this and is there a solution.
mowgli82 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 enable the verbose logging gpo this should help with diagnostics
CHM-ITServices Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 +1 for verbose logging. I actually have it on all the time now as i prefer to see what is going on.
ngibson Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 If I do this what should I be looking for in the log file?
CHM-ITServices Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 You don't need to go into the logs. It replaces the 'Please Wait...' with the differnt process' it's running. i.e. installing software or folder redirection etc
ngibson Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Ah yes. I have tried this before when loading some software. I will give it a go but I'm sure it gets to please wait and is stuck there.
Gardinho Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 What is the size of the WBEM cache? Check %windir%System32\Wbem\Repository You might need to rebuild the WMI Repository.
