Some TVs and projectors displaying VGA image incorrectly

We've got a problem that's started happening over the last month or two where some computers that are connected to TVs or projectors are displaying incorrectly. In all cases the problem can be temporarily (but not permanently) fixed by switching to another source and then back again.

 

For example a PC connected to a TV displays the image shifted several inches to the right, whereas a projector might display the image with the top and bottom cut off.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions what might cause this and how to fix it permanently? Could this be caused by a dodgy Windows Update, or is it more likely to be a graphics driver issue?

 

We are on Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64.

What graphics cards are in them?

They're all Intel integrated graphics, of various generations (nothing higher than 4th generation though).

I'm going to assume you've done all the basics? Drivers, resolution etc.

Have you tried HDMI with the TVs?

The issue was only raised late yesterday afternoon so I've not had a chance to try anything yet. However graphics drivers are at the top of my list, yes.

 

With regard to HDMI I will need to check if we have any DVI to HDMI cables as the computer connected to it does not have an HDMI port on it.
