ADFS Setup

Hi all,

 

I am looking at using adfs and wondered what setup you guys have?

MS recommend a 4 server setup but is that really what you have all done? with a couple of servers in a farm do? SOme people suggested just one in a Virtual envirnment with a replica

 

I currently use same sign on/unified sign on using DIRSync so i disable password sync or do i leave this and it will become a fallback if adfs fails?

 

Any help would be appreciated,

Depends how big your network is. Ideally you want an adfs server on site and one replicated in the cloud. However, to simplify and cut down costs i have one VM with 2012r2 that does AD connect and adfs, and another VM for web application proxy in a DMZ.

not that big to be honest.

small secondary school with about 600 users.. of them only about 100 use the services.

 

Is it easy enough to do?

The second adfs server is more for redundancy, for work load you can make it work on 1 server.

 

I done it over a weekend and ran into a few hiccups but managed to overcome them before Monday. I wouldn't call it easy or difficult, just make sure you take lots of checkpoints on the way.

Depends if you need them to be able to logon from home. Then you need a adfs proxy.
