Short range wireless link - fast as possible

Anyone have any suggestions for VERY fast yet short range wireless bridges/P2P links?

I have 2 buildings that are a matter of 20 meters apart, yet running cable is going to be cost prohibitive. We wish to provide them with a wireless bridge. Although there are plenty of solutions offering ac wireless, one thing we're looking at is backups being stored at each-other's sites. We'd prefer to go gigabit, or as close as possible.

AirFiber is one of my favourite offerings in this however it's a lot of money; and a lot of that seems to go into the fact it specialises in long range links. Is there anything shorter range that may suffice? One site has Ruckus, the other is UniFi.

If it's only for backups etc (not any "real" work), have you just considered adding a mesh'd Ruckus AP in the other building? Obviously depends on building layout etc, but might be cheapest/easier option?

Very much so, unfortunately we'd have to upgrade the controller as we're all out of ports

I think I might be jumping the gun a bit. Just looking at the Unifi Litebeam AC at the moment...

Ah shame, think Unifi can do mesh too. Just used to Ruckus

 

But yeah as it's so close any "proper" link seems expensive option haha

I have the same issue, and we use unifi mesh to solve it. Very easy to set up!

Just making a simple suggestion could you span a cable at a high level between the buildings?

If so then I would suggest a multiple pre-terminate fibre cable, this would give you electrical separation between the two buildings and if you switches support LAG you could run say up to 4Gb Full duplex connections or faster depending on your switches ports.

Radio connectivity is single frequency hence half duplex, so if you're going to run data in both directions at the same time you may not see the sorts of speeds you would like to think.

As already said, cable is a no go however it's routed. When we can get speeds of around half a gig for ~£120 for a pair it's not going to be worth it. They may well look at doing something more permanent if they do decide to join forces properly but until then, radio will be more than sufficient

If you have line of sight then a laser system at that distance would definitely give you one Gb full duplex link this sort of thing on eBay
