Could be useful for saving clips of websites for topics you're researching. To me this feels like it should be integrated with Google Keep rather than being given it's own standalone site/app though.

That's exactly what I thought too. They are too similar to keep separate.

 

Google Saves also reminds me of Google's Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome (which was formerly known as Google Stars). They must be designed by the same team?
