I recently moved from BT to EE for my home broadband. I had my Draytek 2850 running with BT Infinity, but can't get it running with the EE service.

I've tried the Brightbox 2 that came with the service, but it doesn't seem to like my Unifi wireless - most of my devices don't get connected, either they don't get an IP address or for some reason don't get to the outside world. I'd rather run the Draytek anyway.

I've copied the settings from the EE router to the Draytek:

VLAN tag insertion - value 101

Username: PRODUCTIONHQNUN123456@fs (not the real username, but the format)

Password: HQNUN123456 (as taken from guidance on ee website)

Protocol: PPPoE (Also tried PPPoA)

Symptoms: When the router boots, the VDSL light flashes slowly then quickly. I then get sync (steady status light) and the up speed and down speed show, along with the SNR. However there's no WAN IP address and the connection status is mostly: Error [ Username or Password Error ] interspersed with Starting PPP.

Any ideas? Or is it time for a new router? Tempted to flash the Brightbox with DD WRT, but if I break it I won't have any way of connecting to the Internet...

If your router supports VDSL (2850 does I think) then you do need to insert the VLAN tag (101). If you run PPOE to an Openreach modem then you omit the tag as its inserted by the modem.

From the error you are seeing it looks like the PPOE session is not coming up due to an authentication error. Would double check username and password settings.

Thanks for the images - I can't get onto the support site. I tried to register, but haven't had a response. I think it's because my device is legacy and you have to have a current product.

The 2850 is an update of the 2830 - the difference is a VDSL modem.

My settings are as per the images above. I'll submit a username password query to EE.

Guess what? Wrong password...

If username is: PRODUCTIONHQNUN123456 @fs

password is: HQNPASS123456

Should have looked at the official help page, not some random Googled source....

Laptop now connecting wired and wireless at 33Mbps download (line max set at 35) and 8Mbps upload (max set to 10). Only problem seems to be my phone - I'm getting 2 - 5 Mbps download and 9.8 Mbps upload. Something odd going on (previously had 38Mbps download on phone from same Unify wireless points).

Glad its all sorted. I had a frustrating time setting up VDSL at my primary. I was using a Draytek 2830 with Openreach modem which doesn't require the VLAN tag configured on the router (which I didn't realise). ISP weren't much help but eventually I got it sorted,
