talksr Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Hi, I am getting rusty on some of these network related theories, so thought I should post on here to refresh my memory. This is a home problem for me, but something which could very easily surface whilst at a school. My broadband comes in downstairs (ADSL2) and goes into my EE router. From here, it connects to a powerline adaptor which goes to my study upstairs. From this, it goes into a netgear 1gbps managed switch which has connected to it my computers and netgear 6tb nas. Internet can be slow, as well as pre-recorded movies on TV downstairs which is connected to NAS through the EE router and powerline to upstairs study. I can't understand why if I transfer files from my pc to the nas, it can take days. The pc and nas are on the same switch. They get DHCP from the router downstairs. Is the traffic going from PC, through switch, down powerline to router and then back up? If I do tracert from pc to nas I get: Tracing route to netgear.default [192.168.1.155] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms netgear.default [192.168.1.155] Trace complete. Similarly, if I do tracert to router, I get: Tracing route to BrightBox.ee [192.168.1.1] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms BrightBox.ee [192.168.1.1] Trace complete. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
