clarky2k3 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I have recently just caught a student in the c:/ drive messing on with the documents and settings. He got there through Dreamweaver MX. Has anyone any ideas how to stop it.
FN-GM Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 We get the same on Dreamweaver 8. Its not an issue as such they cannot change anything. Try hiding the C drive.
clarky2k3 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 The C:/ drive is hidden in group policy! I was watching the lad, (who isnt an idiot) make an html with pings in it. He then changed it to a .bat and ran it! Even tho cmd prompt is disabled!
Pete10141748 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Instead of hiding the C drive, actually prevent access to it. The option is in gpedit.msc in the same section as the "hide access to these drives" which I'm assuming you used to hide C in the first place. We've done that here and no-one can get in - the only downside is if you want to get into the C drive you need to alter the gpedit.msc setting so that you can get in (might be another way, but I don't know it!). small price to pay to stop student messing with docs&settings and Windows folders. dan400007 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 This could end up going the same way a long post I remember from a couple of months ago about what to allow students to do on the workstations. The jist of it was that everyone had a different opinion on the matter and a different way of approaching it. Initially I was very much for locking the system down as much as possible but then it only needs a fairly smart KS4/5 student to find a way around. If you've got Serif MoviePlus 5 you may have the same problem there too.
