Daaood Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Hi would anybody be able to assist me in migrating our current mailboxes from BGFL Zimbra to Office 365?
foofighterjim Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Sorry, I just replied in the other thread. To keep things simple I will reply here. What exactly do you need help with? How far into the process are you?
Daaood Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 I have set up a new 365 domain and users. I am at the point where I am migrating the mailboxes from BGFL Zimbra to Office 365. this is the part i am stuck on at the moment. I need assistance in whats the bast way of doing this
mikkydoos Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) @Daaood Link2ICT made this a large pain in the bum for me. You need to ask them to enable IMAP on your Zimbra accounts. Get the IMAP server details from them, then use the USERS/IMPORT page in O365. The pain for me was that they'd only let me IMAP 10 accounts per day. because it was too heavy a drain on their network! Sheesh! I had to use a non .bham,sch.uk domain because they'd turn the IMAP off after half a day so the mailboxes would be out of sync after a couple of minutes. I just told the users 'you have a new mail address from now' then forwarded mail from Zimbra to their new address. In the hols I moved the old domain to a new host, validated it in O365, set up the DNS etc etc. Its a bigger pain than you think, and you're going to have some mail downtime. EDIT: That was a couple of years back. Has it changed? I don't know. Maybe now they're pushing O365 themselves. I'd say phone to ask. Edited March 2, 2016 by mikkydoos
foofighterjim Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I had to use a non .bham,sch.uk domain because they'd turn the IMAP off after half a day so the mailboxes would be out of sync after a couple of minutes. I just told the users 'you have a new mail address from now' then forwarded mail from Zimbra to their new address. In the hols I moved the old domain to a new host, validated it in O365, set up the DNS etc etc. I did things slightly differently, I setup O365 with the new mailboxes. I then got the MX record changed to O365 so any new mail hit the empty O365 mailboxes. I then started the process described above to migrate the contents of the Zimbra accounts over to the live O365 ones. It took some coordinating but I informed users of the change and from x date they would need to log into O365 to get new mail. Assuring them that their old email would be brought over ASAP, you may need to prioritise certain users.
