Scripts and printer resume

Hi

I want to run a command

 

dseditgroup -o edit -a everyone -t group _lpadmin

 

to allow people to be able to resume their print jobs on OS X.

 

What is the best way of getting this command pushed out to all the macs please? It needs to run as an admin.

 

I think you have to use Automator and run a shell script - I got that far and opened up 'Run Shell Script' in Automator but how do I run it as a local admin without needing to put the password in? Sorry it's basic stuff !

No need to use Automator simply run the command using ARD's "Send UNIX Command" feature to selected computers. You must always run commands as root. If you don't have ARD then seriously consider buying it - it's cheap anyway - as it forms one of the cornerstones of "Mac Management". Assuming you don't know what ARD is, I mean the administration part of Apple Remote Desktop that's part of the OS and built into every mac. More about ARD Admin here:

If your users aren't local administrators, don't make them print administrators. _lpoperator will allow them to resume printers.

 

And yes, ARD is great for this.
