TIOAOA Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I'm looking to move away from the authority and put in new Internet connection, with that in mind I'd be interested to get some information from people using GAFE heavily within their school. What speed connection do you have ? How many users are on that connection ? And do you find GAFE works without any issues or do you long for a faster line. I don't think I can afford a leased line solution but am worried its what I would need to have 200 users all editing Google Docs at the same time. Any info / advice would be great. P.S. If one more person asks me if I had a good week off I may just explode.
crc-ict Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 We are on a 50Mb leased line and don't consider it to be particularly fast for Google Apps access. This is with 70ish staff accessing and 200 pupil devices. 1
CyberNerd Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 The amount of bandwith used by GAFE is tiny. It is mostly upload rather than download: and it is only sending tiny changes in files and not files themselves. The data is all encrypted and compressed in transit. Our stats: We have 1.1+Million documents on GAFE. We have 2000 users. We have 1600 machines with a 1:1 Chromebook scheme. Our PEAK bandwidth is 120Mb/s. Our average bandwidth is 50-60Mb/s. We don't block youtube etc. What you DO need is reliability. Get a decent backup line from a different provider (ie don't use a BT leased line and a BT FFTC ) 1
