Did it not let you drag an HTML block into the centre of the default dashboard page? If not, then I would raise the issue with the theme maintainer over on Moodle.org because I would imagine Essential (which I haven't used) would allow you to drag blocks into the centre of the page in the same way that other themes do. I would imagine you can't add the block to the centre of the front page (which is where you seem to be with your screenshot ) because maybe Essential doesn't allow for that underneath the course list?
