gsk Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Hi All, What I would like to achieve is to be able to issue a low cost WiFi access point or router that people could plug into their normal router at home and with zero configuration for them, appear to be directly connected to the school network, with school filtering and IP address etc. What do I need to do to go about it? Thanks,
FN-GM Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Look at routers that can run WRT firmware. Have you looked at Microsoft Direct Access? When setup the laptops know they are not connected to the school network and automatically VPN into your LAN. Its also clientless and just the cost of a server.
gsk Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Thanks, I'll look into the routers. I want something at the network layer rather than Direct Access so that it can be used across platforms.
FN-GM Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Makes sense. This is an example of what WRT can do. Its not a wireless router but you get the picture - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC833ulQRo8
gsk Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Thanks for that. WRT firmware looks like a bit of a rabbit-hole, but should be exactly what I need. How easy is openVPN to setup on Server 2012R2?
FN-GM Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 No idea, I don't think you can set it up on Server 2012. However if you have Smoothwall that can do it.
gsk Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 I've downloaded and used the OVF template to run in vmware so now just trying to get my head round how open VPN works! Any recommendations on a good wrt router?
