Smartboard - Unknown Device

Morning Guys,

 

Bit of a weird one, last year we replaced our teacher machines and seems after a few months of no-one mentioning a few are saying their smartboards aren't working via touch, and after looking at the device manager they're showing up as unknown devices.

 

The weird thing is this only happens on 3 out of 10 machines that have the same boards. (Smartboard Unifis).

 

Any random logic as to why this might be?

 

Tried a working cable from one room to another and it doesn't work.

Tried different USB slots (2/3) and it doesn't work.

Tried broken cable from one room to another that works and it works there.

 

All same drivers/software install.

Two solutions which seem to fix 99% of our problems.

 

USB Power cable (can't remember the actual term it's called) but it extends a USB cable and gives a bit more power.

or

Plugging that cable directly to the Smart board not using the controller part (think that's what it's called). There is two boards to plug a USB cable in to, one part is the multi adapter which allows you to connect up to a few devices. The other is the actual main board.

 

We also found that latest versions of smart/drivers don't necessarily work for older boards.

Haven't tried a powered one as we don't have any, but surely (from past experiences) that would only matter if you're using long cables?

 

If all the cables are the same length/type etc surely it should be the same power requirements? :s Or is that too logical for Smartboards haha.

 

Will try the direct USB part when I can get access to it.

 

In regards to the drivers etc they all worked fine (same software build) just different machine much newer
