Fun day with New R730's and VMware..

Got 3 new Dell R730's today.

 

Dual 18 Core , 384 of Ram.

 

They have this QuickSync facility which allows you to interrogate the server with NFC and an android app. I was also able to configure the DRAC's IP

 

It took about 2hrs to get all three racked, networked and VMware 5.5 installs finished including out basic 3 virtual switches per host

 

All ready for new citrix deployment ...

 

2 more to build for the DR site...

You got any info on things like pricing etc for your planned config?

 

Still having a dig about for vdi vs fat replacements but seems a lack of information regarding pricin for stuff unless you get hounded by a reseller haha

think they were ~10K each but was not paying too much attention to the cost as someone else was on that part of the project.

 

Only have 1 Dual 10Gb card in them unlike our other "Virtual Server" cluster where there is more of an issue if a card should fail.

 

Disks I think were a pair of 300Sases... Again did not pay much attention as they are not really being used.

 

 

We hit a block last thing though when trying to add them to Vcenter. The ESX is 5.5U3 and the current vcenter is for U2. So we have an emergency change in tomorrow morning to update VCenter
