Microsoft Surface Book on Microsoft Stand :)

This is a bit belated as I've only just found out from Tim Bush over at the Microsoft Stand (E310) and I've found out they have 2 of the brand new Surface Books on the stand to demo.

I had a bit of a play and all I can say is OMG! The screen/tablet part is so light and it feels very well constructed. In short, I want one!

You can find them around the far side of their stand hiding among the other Surfaces!

and iron out the problems with power /screen ive heard about the just arnt acceptable on a flagship device that costs that much. It does seem a great idea badly executed

I'm actually in the market for a new laptop and would have been interested in the Surfacebook were it not for the price tag. An adequately spec'd mid range model with an i5, 8Gb RAM, a 256Gb SSD and a discrete GPU is £1600!

 

I get the feeling MS released it as a showcase and proof of concept model rather than something they actually wanted to sell to the public.

I had a play with a SurfaceBook at BETT too and was impressed with how light the screen was. I also liked that it was very similar in size to a sheet of A4 paper.

 

I hope future models include USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 since that would enable you to hook it up to an external GPU dock.

Btw, a 13" MacBook Pro with the same mid-range specs would normally cost £1,279 and that lacks a touchscreen, pen, discrete GPU, infrared camera and isn't made of magnesium. Flagship hardware is always expensive. For what you are getting I don't think it's a bad price.

I had planned on visiting your stand, but had such a long list of things to see for school I ran out of time. I can't believe how quickly it flies by.

 

I think next time I will also avoid getting an advance train ticket so I can stay in London longer and come and meet you.

It's still serious monies even with the discount though! Maybe I'll feel differently when I get a chance to play with one in store when it's officially released!
