wodbud Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) I want to manage local printers of domain computers. I mean deleting all installed local printers, deploy AD printers and set specific as default. But don't know how to do it. Can you help me? edit: I know how to deploy, don't know how to list & remove installed local printers on PCs. Edited January 19, 2016 by wodbud
RowlandoGloom Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I am using Group Policy Preferences to manage printer deployment. How are you doing it? Do you have much knowledge of GPP? In the printers GPO you have, go to: User Configuration -> Preferences -> Control Panel Settings -> Printers Right click and choose "New Network Printer". Change the type to "Delete" and it will give you the option to delete all shared printers: If you have multiple rules to add printers, make sure the new rule is set to first in the order, otherwise it will add them then delete them.
RowlandoGloom Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 If you know what the local printers are called, I.e. "Fax" and "Send to OneNote", in GPP do the same, but instead of shared printer choose new local printer. Again set it to delete and type the printer name to remove.
dapaulio Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I have great success in deploying printer thru login scripts. I find group policy printers can leave the client hanging on some drivers for some time. Scripts are alot faster to run. We use adprintx.exe to deploy the printer and set the default. If you want a local printer to prioritise the default over a network printer you can set a reg key thru group policy user tying that machine. Hkcu/Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Copy the device key in to group policy
