NB9457 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Just been reading up on Server 2016 licencing and it seems microsoft are licensing some of the new server OSs per core as opposed per socket/CPU, reported to be 25% more expensive than previous. Link to a report here: With the release of Windows Server 2016, licensing to move from socket to core What are peoples thoughts on this, logical, greedy? Seems a bit bizarre to me.

Why should 2x 4 core cost twice as much as 1x 8 core etc But generally would benefit smaller companies and make it worse for large I'd say But just complicate things overall for us Steve
Arthur Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Makes sense to me, although MS have made the new Storage Spaces Direct and Storage Replica features in 2016 completely pointless for most businesses due to license costs.
