FITS (Framework for ICT Technical Support)

Hi All,

 

Please has anyone on here done the FITS training?

 

I would like to get information about it.

 

I would like to know what to expect in the training ,materials to read, how beneficial it is and so on.

That seems quite specific to Shools only to me. I'm about to do my ITIL training on Monday which is a recognised standard across lots of different industries, I believe its taking a while to get round the education sector though.

 

But then if you want specific to schools thats fine, its just ITIL could open up doors to other places mayber?

Thanks for your reply. All the best in ur exams. So your saying fits is like itil? That means it does not have much about computer terminologies and is more of administration?

Its probably more what you are looking for, just from a quick skim the FITS Practitioner Course seems based around practises like service desk management, change management etc but because its based around education, education will be the focus and if thats where your focus is then thats great, but it might be worth looking at a more industry standard qual, so that you aren't limited to education, ive just heard people say that they wanted out of education but didnt have the skills/quals people are looking for.

 

My reason for doing ITIL is becuase I want to go into some sort of management / team leader roll and after speaking to my manager he said that its probably a good place to start.

 

Not trying to put you off, but there are probably lots of other avenues to explore, depending what your end goal is.

Well I work in a school and the school is paying for it and has put me forward for it.

I was looking for materials for the course so I can read more b4 I go for the two day training.

 

I am not from a management background, I believe in practical thats why I don't like too much of talking and all the meeting issue

ITIL is designed to fit (no pun intended) companies from all shapes and sizes. When I did it I was the only person from a school, but alongside admins from multinationals who looked after hundreds of servers. FITS is basically an implementation of ITIL that has been tailored to the UK education sector (I think BECTA did it ?). So if you can't find info on FITS then ITIL is what you need to look for.

 

ITIL/FITS isn't necessarily a management qualification, it should be undertaken by anyone working in IT (IMO). I strongly believe management *should* take the course but I've never met a head or deputy who has !
