Settings for Network Camera

I'm currently trying to set up a Dual Codec CMOS IR network camera for a bird nesting box purchased through the excellent HandyKam http://www.handykam.com/. I'm having a problem getting the camera to be seen over our network.

 

According to the instructions I should be able to web browse it at http://192.168.0.20 but this doesn't happen.

 

I have tried giving it a reserve IP address through it's MAC address but again no joy. Anyone care to share experience please on how I can get it seen?

What's the IP address of your PC - something along the lines of 10.0.0.xxx? You'll need to disconnect your (or a spare) PC from the network, set the IP address to (say) 192.168.0.1 and plug it straight into the webcam. You should then be able to connect to the webcam. You'll then want to change the IP address to something that matches up with what you use on your network.

 

The other possibility is that the webcam has picked up an IP address via DHCP from your system. You could check and see in your DHCP lease log if that has happened (should see the MAC address of the device listed next to its IP address). Again, once you connect to the device you'll probably want to set a fixed IP address so it doesn't randomly change if you have a powercut or whatever.
