Buying a Humax PVR

Hi - dunno if anyone is thinking of buying one of these over Christmas - I've just bought one for my Mum - I was purchasing direct from Humax and had added the box to my "shopping cart" but didn't complete the transaction, next day they had emailed me a 1-% off voucher to encourage me to complete the purchase.

 

Worth bearing in mind to save a few quid!

Thats interesting to know and this alis something that MSE go on about, putting things in your basket, dont purchase them and then the company gives you discount. I didn't think it actually worked.

 

As for the Humax stuff, ive got a 9300 pvr, the first HD version, bought it back in 2006/2007 i think and touch wood, its still going strong, would highly recommend .

Got the new Freeview Play box a couple of weeks ago to replace our media centre PC. It's quiet and picture quality is great, but it's a bit slow and feels like it needs a couple of firmware updates to really be good.

I got a freesat Humax box (a hdr-1000s) when I ditched Sky's telly earlier in the year, and while it works fine it too is a bit slow when navigating about. It's not as bad as a talktalk freeview plus box my parents have, but it's noticeably slower in the menus than the sky+hd box it replaced. Saying that, it's £0/month and records just fine and I'm not missing the pay for telly so that's all good. Also due to a somewhat poor UI design you end up pressing enter more times than you really think should be necessary! A minor thing, but one thing I really do like about is that you can pause radio - something you couldn't do on the sky+ box (no idea why the sky box didn't, surely it's capable of doing it!)

What actual internet players have they got?

All the UK terrestrial channels and a YouTube app. Various obscure ones. Netflix is coming in January apparently.

I've got mine wired up to my router which gives me additional functionality/channels

Yeah, DLNA works quite well too.
