Google Drive on a Server

Im attempting to use a single account to sync all of our staff home areas to google drive via a generic "backup" user and then share each folder with each individual staff member.

 

I cant however get it to run on the top level of the home drive directory, it runs on any level below this.

 

I get an error 5 access denied message. All NTFS permissions are the same across all folders barring the explicit owner permissions and obviously system/admin etc.

 

Has anyone tried to do this and managed to get it to work?

I tried doing it on the root of my mirrored drive on my PC with Shadow Copies enabled - it won't work as it won't back up those system files... I spent quite a while talking to Google about it and they remoted on to have a look (though they didn't see or ask about any system files etc.) once I asked them if that could be the cause they said it is...

 

So worth putting them all in a sub-directory on the drive.

They already are in a sub directory.

 

Are you saying that if there are system files (DFS folders) in the sub folder it will fail?

I'd imagine they'd cause similar issues as the Google Drive software won't read/sync them...

So, I have to copy all the directories minus the DFS stuff to another physical HDD and then sync them?

 

(Or turn off DFS)

I wouldn't like to say for certain, but I'd guess so... it was working for me until I enabled shadow copies, then stopped, and started again as soon as I'd moved it...

 

Are you thinking of sharing the folders once they're in Google Drive? Extra access for the staff then... Bit of a faff to set up though lol...

Yes, I will share everyone's home directory with their own Google drive in GAFE.
