jlucas Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Hi everyone Over the summer I upgraded our mac server to Yosemite and was finally pushed into using the profile manager. Most things work OK, but I'm struggling with managing Chrome. Our Photography department has started using Google Drive to store/submit work and Chrome seems to be the logical choice to use this. Does anyone know how to managed Chrome (homepage, access to settings etc) with Profile manager? Occasionally we also get a problem where Chrome won't load Google Drive or our Frog VLE until you clear out the cookies. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Carter Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 This should be possible by using Managed Preferences. After you customize Chrome you will need to copy the .plist file from a user you have made your changes on and upload it to the server. From here you can then push it out to a lab etc. I use this option when wanting to make lab customizations to the dock and other applications that need settings pushed out.
slancaster Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Chrome is a royal pain for plist's I wanted to set the homepage of Chrome for all users but found out that this setting was in some bizarre database file. I redirected the "default" folder of Chrome to a local folder to stop crashing. I think it acts as some kind of container which throws a wobbler in a networked environment.
Carter Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Just did a quick test and the issue is that Chrome is not just using a .plist. It relies on the folder /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Google If you were to copy this folder out to a lab this will allow you to setup settings, default webpage etc. but this means you cannot use Profile Manager., 1
slancaster Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 we just decided to give up with managed Chrome and was grateful we stopped it crashing!

I assume some sort of login script to re-direct?
