Safari/Profile Maager - Proxy issues

Recent issue has come to light with some macs not accessing locally hosted sites such as webmail, website, etc. when managed with Profile Manager.

 

Macs work fine and are able to connect to local sites before adding into profile manager.

 

 

Once profiles have been added, macs can no longer browse to webmail etc - they receive an error about Safari can't connect to the proxy server (Smoothwall - seems to be giving a 503 error)

 

Remove the proxy settings and still unable to browse locally hosted sites - get same error

 

Strangely - the macs can browse via IP address (which would seem to point to a DNS issue) but nslookup resolves DNS correctly.

 

Macs have proxy exception in place but seem to be ignoring them as even with the exceptions in place smoothwall is still seeing the webmail url.........

 

 

Anyone any ideas what to look at next?
