Driftingashore Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hey guys, I think I jumped into Configurator 2 a little too quickly and was wondering if anybody here knows where I've gone wrong. Basically, I've had our VPP codes converted to Managed Distribution Licenses and signed into Configurator 2 with our VPP account. When adding apps to blueprints, our apps show up. Excellent! However, after applying the blueprint and installing the apps, when using an MDL app, the user is prompted with the following alert: iTunes Store Sign in to accept this app and assign it to your Apple ID. If the user cancels rather than enters an Apple ID, the app closes. I was under the impression that using Configurator 2 end users would not need to have an Apple ID for managed distribution, and the license was assigned to the device, but the alert seems to indicate otherwise, so I suspect that I've missed something stupid. I can't seem to find anything particularly useful in terms of documentation, though perhaps my google-fu is failing me in old age.. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Ed
extrascope Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 In Configurator 2, you need to sign in with your VPP account. The one that you use on the VPP web site. Perhaps you used the iTunes account?
Driftingashore Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks for the response. I'll check tomorrow, but I'm quite sure that I'm signed into Configurator with the VPP account. I can see and apply our VPP apps in Configurator, and I can see that the licenses have been applied to iPads - I can't remember which window this is, but it shows the serial numbers that have licenses applied. However, the result is as mentioned in the original post - users are asked to sign in. TBH I'm not entirely sure what the correct behaviour should be, but I assume that users should just be able to use the app as they were using VPP codes in Configurator, right?
Driftingashore Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 Eventually fumbled my way to figuring this out - my configuration was fine, but the iPads need to connect to Apple's servers before the license for an app is applied, and we use a captive portal that was preventing this from happening. Had to go into our Smoothwall and create an authentication exception for the iTunes category to allow the traffic. It looks like each app will need an active WiFi connection on first open, which could be a bit of a pain, but hey, at least the iPads are usable again.
