[sccm 2012] Fresh install Side by Side.

Hey All,

 

We have a SCCM 2012 server running from when I took over the posistion here a

The server is in a bad way and I have had to apply all kind of fixes to get it up and running.

I'm reaching the point where I am sick of having to deal with it now, so my question is this:

 

Can I install another instance of System Center Configuration Manager (2012 R2 with the aim of upgrading to 2016 once it hits production) onto the network that I can configure to work as close to the original server as possible, then when ready kill the connection to the old server and just use the new server ?

 

I would guess I would need a new site code at the minimum. Also, if I configure the boundaries after I decommission the old server then it should just kick into life?

Create a new SCCM server with new site code.

 

Look into using migration tool to move any old applications, drivers, task sequence, etc to the new SCCM install.

 

SCCM clients will also need to be updated so it has the new site code.

Did not realise there was a migration tool!

That could save a lot of work. I shall look into it. Thanks.
