Copy files to the folder but no delete/modify - Server 2012 R2

Hi there,

 

How can I setup permission on a folder that give access users to copy files to the folder but not delete or modify the existing files?

Server 2012 R2 / windows 7

Just don't give them the following,

 

Create Folders/Append Data

Delete Subfolders and Files

Delete

Change permissions

Take Ownership

Probably not the neatest way but we set up something similar a few years ago. Setting the below permissions for a students year group (or whatever) will allow them to drag and drop file(s) over a folder but they can't browse into the folder to view other peoples work/delete them etc. Just give staff normal Modify or Read/Execute permission. We just tell students to create a folder in their own user area containing their name i.e. Bob Smiths ICT Work. Then drag that folder over the folder with special permissions

Create folders / Append Data

Write attributes

How can we use allow and deny permission on the same folder as it used to be in server 2008 R2? In server 2012 R2 it allows me only select Allow or Deny permission.

You just need to create one permission entry for your user/group of type Allow and then another separate entry of type Deny for the same user/group (I'm assuming you are using the advanced security settings)

Yes, you are right... All done.

 

I think we have achieved what we are looking for.... Deny Create folder , Delete and Delete sub folder and files worked for us.
