Hi all,

 

So we have recently become and academy and i have changed all domain public facing.

 

I now need to reflect this internally as we are still oldschoolname.local

 

Is it best practice to use our external domain or a subdomain of that? I have read mixed opinions on this and havent had a clear enough answer in the past.

MS would rather you use a subdomain of your external domain. See Active Directory Domain Naming Considerations - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

 

.local domains might cause you issues with Apple devices later on down the line.

.local domains may also cause you headaches with Office 365 UPN suffixes. Best avoided these days (except in lab environments).

I have already added a new upn suffix for 365 purposes. I just need to reflect this throughout the organisation.
