[sims] Census Error 2870 - Setting Learning Aims

Hi,

 

I'm getting three 2870 errors relating to three Year 12 students in our Sixth Form, but for the life of me, I can't see why I'm getting this error. They each have course start dates, end dates and planned end dates for each of their courses in Course Manager.

 

Any ideas???

We had this. I can't recall exactly how we fixed it now but it was a phone call to capita that did it in the end.

 

It was a screen where you set their term start and end date. Was an annoying screen where you had to drag a bar instead of just putting the dates in. There term start date was after the course start date and it courses issues. Or osmething like that. Was just off the main student screen but I don't recall where exactly. Hopefully this helps... probably not lol.

Sorry, I forgot to reply to this thread! This was indeed the problem. Basically some students' course start dates and end/planned end dates were erroneous, so I worked through each one and amended them accordingly. We finally submitted our census yesterday (only three weeks after the deadline!!!).

They each have a learning aim, the dates are set to current academic year (3rd Sept 18) and each students started on or around the 5th Sept - so within the 2 week tolerance period. It is our first year of 6th form, so more than likely I'm missing something very obvious...

My previous data manager set up the GCEAs then left - and they are not showing QAN or awards - but I cannot find instructions on how to do this anywhere - and SIMS are proving their usual useful selves. Does anyone know if this would be the issue, and how to fix it?

Hi. All you need to do is go into Tools > Academic Management > Course Manager > Maintain Course and identify all the courses that are being run in your sixth form. For each course, under the Classification section, ensure that the correct QN code has been entered. If the QN does not appear in the list, then you will first need to add it manually in Tools > Academic Management > Course Manager > Update QANs and Discount Codes for Course Manager. Simply search for the QN here and then click Update in the top left corner.

 

Once you have correctly assigned all the QN codes to each course in Course Manager, you just need to update course memberships via Tools > Academic Management > Course Manager > Update Course Memberships

 

Doing this exercise will push through each student on each course into the learning aims area of the census, and this will (in theory) clear all your 2870 errors.

In the learning aims panel, click Re-calculate and select Populate Planned End Dates from Course Manager. This will update the panel before you click Create & Apply to update the errors list.

 

QAN numbers are in the format 123/4567/8 and typically in the course manual. Grab the Guided Learning Hours whilst you are at it as you need those too.

 

Also ensure fileset 1006 has been imported (it's a number in square brackets at the top of the census screen).

 

Awards you don't need to worry about yet as it's your first year and you have no results, but it's handy to have correct for the next census.

Could you also assist with adding Maths and English retakes? Do I add the yr 12s into the yr 11 course? Cannot find any SIMS documentation for this.

Thanks so much for this - I thought so about Awards, but just could not see anything confirming.

 

Am waiting to receive the qualifying and non qualifying hours from my head of 6th form - is this the same as guided learning hours, and where do I enter this?

Maths and English retakes go on the Tools -> Statutory Return Tools -> Update Prior Attainment screen. You enter the grades for every student (this can be auto-filled from data held in Exams Organiser). Those who don't meet the criteria you then add to the GCSE course they will be undertaking via Course Manager. Normally it is a timetabled lesson so they should be added via Update Course Memberships for you but check with your Maths and English department as you may need to make a new course for them.

 

Qualifying hours you have to enter the GLH in course settings as qualified hours for each type of course. This will then propagate the hours to all courses in Course Manager with that type that have empty hours. Double check each course by hand! Then go to Tools -> Academic Management -> Course Manager -> Post-16 Programmes of Study. Highlight everyone with shift-click and click the button to calculate their hours.
